2017 BMI Christian Awards: Bernie Herms, Tony Brown are big winners @christomlin

The writers and publishers of the biggest songs on Christian radio were recognized Tuesday night during the 2017 BMI Christian Awards.

The ceremony was held at the Nashville offices of Broadcast Music Incorporated. The worldwide performing rights organization collects royalties for songwriters in all genres.

The Song of the Year winner was the Chris Tomlin single “Good Good Father,” written by Tony Brown and published by Capitol CMG Paragon and Common Hymnal Digital.

Bernie Herms was named Songwriter of the Year, as he had a hand in four of the organization’s top Christian songs in the last year: “Christ In Me,” “Just Be Held,” “Tell Your Heart to Beat Again” and “Thy Will.”

Those songs were all published by Capitol CMG Publishing, which took home the award for Publisher of the Year. The company includes publishers Capitol CMG Paragon, Meaux Mercy Publishing, Songs of Universal, Inc., Sparrow Song, Universal Music-Brentwood Songs and Worship Together Music. With 14 recognized songs, Capitol CMG can claim ownership of more than half of BMI’s class of 2017.
